4 Ways to Increase Your Productivity and Get More Out of Your Day

Sometimes you wish you had a little more time. More time to get a project done before a presentation to a client. More time to study before a certification test for your trade. More time to spend with your family. The list goes on and on.

While you can’t add a 25th hour onto the day, you can streamline your processes to help you carve out time and get more done. Check out these four tips to increasing productivity and getting more out of your day.

  1. Keep a list of your priorities and to dos. This could be a literally to do list, this could be in the form of a weekly list, or you could even break your priorities up by months. Whatever works for you and your business to help you see both the big picture and the little nuances that make up your day to day. When you can visualize everything you need to do, you can develop a strategy for getting it all done (and not forgetting your son’s hockey championship is next week).
  2. High-importance activities first. Once you’ve identified everything you have on your plate, break up your to dos by level of importance. Factor in time sensitivity, potential profit and gain, and scope of project. Do you have a high profit project that you could knock out quickly? Prioritize that above the flexible project that may not have much return.
  3. Stay focused! Multi-tasking is great, and can help you cook dinner while studying for the GRE, but sometimes a project deserves your undivided attention. Be honest with yourself about your capabilities and the needs of a project, and give your priorities the attention they deserve.
  4. Revisit your list. The cadence will depend on your workload and your needs, but revisit your list as regularly as necessary to make sure you are still capturing things. Perhaps before you leave for a business trip, schedule out the few days before, but check in at the end of each day to make sure you are still on target to get everything done before you leave.

Putting in a little time may seem counter-intuitive to getting time back out of your day, but a little effort in the organization department can go a long way to helping you stay on track and get things done. Focusing on the details of your projects, and not daydreaming on the outcomes, can help you ultimately achieve the outcome you really want. More productivity in less time!
